Bengal, German scientists discover new beetle in Kolkata

Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and other institutions have discovered a new beetle species in Kolkata called Maladerakolkataensis. The beetle is a phytophagous insect, meaning it feeds on green plants. The team also found 21 new zoological species in West Bengal and Bihar. ZSI director Dhriti Banerjee stated that these biodiversity studies are important for understanding Indian agriculture. While the beetle feeds on different parts of plants, it is not considered a pest.
