Working under sun causes one in three deaths from non-melanoma skin cancer: WHO-led Study

Outdoor workers face a significant risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer due to exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation, according to a study involving the World Health Organization and the International Labour Organization. The research estimated that in 2019, nearly 1.6 billion people of working age were exposed to solar ultraviolet radiation while working outdoors, resulting in approximately 19,000 deaths from non-melanoma skin cancer. The study highlights the need for increased protection for outdoor workers, including providing shade, shifting working hours, and implementing personal protective measures.
