Spanish mother and daughter team up to restore church frescoes using bacteria

A Spanish microbiologist and an art conservationist are restoring historic paintings in Valencia using bacteria. Pilar Bosch discovered this method during her PhD research, helping her mother Pilar Roig in restoring 18th-century paintings. The €4-million project uses bacteria mixed with an algae-based gel to effectively remove glue from the artwork without damaging it.
