Northern lights may arrive just in time for New Year's Eve: When, where and how to watch in the US

A geomagnetic storm is expected to bring the northern lights into view across the northern US on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The phenomenon, caused by solar particles hitting Earth's atmosphere, will be visible in parts of northern states from Alaska to Maine.
