Scientists tracked 21 oilbirds in Venezuela, and five of them left their cave for up to 73 days

Oilbirds display distinct travel patterns when seeking fruit in tropical forests. Some birds return to their main cave nightly, while others venture out for days. A third group undertakes longer trips, staying away for weeks near feeding grounds. These migratory oilbirds flew less each night, conserving energy by resting closer to food. Researchers tracked twenty-one birds using devices to record their movements and flight times.
